The poignant sky weeps with me today in solidarity my fluorescent-lighted sorrow staggers through forests of bones of my jagged mind This this is the legacy I have passed down to you my child Some glide over the world protected by a film of joy No, these are not our people we sink into the swamps of grief slick and sullied dense clouds absorb us in layered greyness streaked by dark shadowed birds pungent with emotion spring violets give no comfort

regret stains us like ink beneath fingernails

The crimson flakes of our ancestors’ souls congeal in sunsets igniting in flame

the suffering of forefathers vibrates in chambers of skull and flesh our ears discern only the cacophony the growl of creation
